Open Enrollment and How CHP Can Help

Post Date: Nov 04, 2020

Need Health Insurance? Be Prepared for Open Enrollment This November. Open enrollment for 2021 plans in the Health Insurance Marketplace begins Sunday, November 1st, and is open through Tuesday, December 15th. During this period, those who don’t have insurance offered through their employer will able to enroll in a 2021 Marketplace health plan for the first time or assess options for re-enrollment. The 2021 plans and prices will be available to preview shortly before November 1st. Once you’ve enrolled in a plan during this period, your coverage will begin on January 1, 2021. You can find all of the details about how to apply, view your plan options, and enroll at HealthCare.gov.

Why Enroll?

Health insurance is an essential part of protecting your health and well-being, as well as your wallet in the case of an emergency. Many plans provide free preventative services that keep you on top of your health needs, such as vaccines, screenings, and some check-ups, and make your prescriptions cheaper. And it protects you from high, unexpected medical costs since you won’t ever pay higher than your deductible.

The Health Insurance Marketplace provides many savings options for people who have a lower income, are unemployed, or work for companies that don’t offer health insurance. Sometimes, even when employers do offer healthcare, the Marketplace can be a more cost-effective option. It’s worth filling out an application and looking at the options you qualify for because it may be more affordable than you think.

CHP Can Help

CHP has six certified application counselors across Bozeman, Belgrade, Livingston, and West Yellowstone. They are available to help you through the process of applying for health insurance and exploring your options. For many, the process can be overwhelming. Our application counselors can walk you through it step-by-step, allowing you to find information more easily and helping you better understand your options.

An application counselor can set up a time with you to meet over the phone or Zoom to talk about your eligibility, help you set up an account, assist you in uploading your documents and income information, and explain the insurance plans you’re eligible for. They’re great at explaining terminology that can be confusing, like “premium tax credits” and “deductibles.” They can also help you find a plan that covers your current medical providers and the medications you need.

Beyond helping you with Health Insurance Marketplace enrollment, our application counselors can also help you find out if you’re eligible for Medicare or Medicaid and assist you through that process as well.

While applying for health insurance in the Marketplace may seem intimidating, with the help of an application counselor, it doesn’t take longer than an hour of your time to apply and see what’s available to you.

What if I’m Already Enrolled?

If you’re already enrolled, and you don’t change your plan during open enrollment, you’ll be re-enrolled in your 2020 plan or something similar for 2021. However, some updates have been made, so new plans are available, and you may qualify for more savings. To view all of your options and make sure you have the plan that works for you, we recommend logging in, updating your application, and reviewing all of your options during open enrollment.

CHP is here to help you navigate the Health Insurance Marketplace and find the right plan for you and your family. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need assistance. You do not need to be a patient of CHP to receive services from our certified application counselors.
